As your baby grows, their sleep space needs to grow with them. One of the most common questions parents ask is:
“When should I lower the level of my baby’s cot?”

The answer depends on your baby’s development, not just their age. Here’s what you need to know to keep your little one safe and comfortable at every stage.

A good rule of thumb, as soon as your baby can sit up independently, it’s time to lower the mattress level. This will most likely be between 4 and 8 months of age.

Newborn to Rolling Stage: Bassinet Level

In the early months, you can keep the cot base on the bassinet setting.
This makes it easier on your back when lifting your baby in and out for cuddles, night feeds, and nappy changes.

At this stage, your newborn isn’t mobile yet, so there’s no risk of them sitting or pulling up.

When Baby Starts to Sit: Time to Lower

Once your baby can sit up independently, it’s time to lower the cot base to the  lower level.

This usually happens between four to eight months, but every baby develops at their own pace.

Toddler Bed: Lowest Level

All of our babyhood toddler beds are designed to be used at the lower mattress settings.

How do I lower the mattress level?

Lowering the mattress is easy and typically involves removing and re-inserting a few bolts.  Check your babyhood cot's manual for instructions. If you've lost the manual PDF's are available to download here.
